Does Google refund money for invalid clicks?

Yes, but as credits on your account, not as cash back to your card. Invalid clicks Google catches before billing are never charged. The ones it finds after an invoice are credited on a later invoice “where appropriate and possible”. If you think it missed some, the Click Quality form lets you ask for a review of the last 60 days. The review typically takes several business days, and a credit isn't guaranteed.

Three ways invalid clicks come back

1

Filtered before billing

Google's automated systems remove invalid clicks from your metrics and your bill. You never pay for them, so no credit appears. You can see how many there were in the Invalid clicks column.

2

Credited after billing

If Google finds invalid activity after an invoice is finalised, it adds a credit to a later invoice, labelled Invalid activity. A click from the end of one month can be credited in the next.

3

Credited after your claim

If you think Google missed invalid clicks, send the Click Quality form. Specialists review your traffic from the last 60 days and email you the result, with a credit if they find invalid activity the filters missed.

Where to see what you got back

  • Billing → Summary, then choose the month. An Invalid activity line shows the original invoice number, the original month of service and the campaign.
  • Report Editor → template gallery → “Invalid Activity Credit Report: Search & PMax”. It shows credited clicks, the credited amount and your cost after credits, by campaign and network, for Search and Performance Max campaigns.

Filing a claim: what Google asks for

  1. 1Your 10-digit customer ID.
  2. 2The exact dates of the suspicious activity, and the campaigns and ad groups affected.
  3. 3The keywords driving the unusual traffic.
  4. 4Web server logs with IP addresses, browser or device details and GCLIDs for the suspicious clicks.
  5. 5For fake leads, a spreadsheet with each lead's GCLID and what you found when you contacted them.
  6. 6A short explanation, such as a spike in clicks with no rise in conversions.

The review won't tell you which individual clicks were valid or invalid. Credit is given “when appropriate and possible”, so it isn't guaranteed.

Charges from campaigns someone else created in your account follow a different process with its own rules. What to do if your account is hacked

Where stopfakeclicks fits

Credits only come back for clicks Google agrees were invalid, and only for the last 60 days. stopfakeclicks works before the money is spent: repeat clickers and bots go onto your IP exclusion list so they stop seeing your ads. Every blocked click is listed with its IP, time, device, campaign and keyword, next to the number of invalid clicks Google filtered out on its own each day, so you can see what Google caught and what it didn't.
